1 Check the diaper

The first thing that we have to check in infancy is a diaper, whether the baby has a wet diaper or not. If the baby doesn’t have a wet diaper, then the next thing that you have to look at is whether the baby is hungry or not.

2. Feed the baby

If the baby is hungry, try to feed the baby. Most of the time if the baby is hungry and crying, this settles down significantly.

3. Swaddle the baby

Most babies when they are in the womb they are in a tiny space where they are more secure. Once the baby is born they are left free. Most babies if they are not swaddled or covered properly, may feel very insecure because their hands and legs are free. So in order to decrease this insecurity try to swaddle the baby in a cloth. There are many youtube videos, which show how to swaddle a new neonate and this will help the baby to feel more secure.

4. Check the environment

Another common reason why the baby cries a lot in neonates is because of the environment. When sometimes the babies may feel cold. Sometimes you may feel hot. If the baby is feeling cold and you are putting on too less cloth then you have to cover the baby significantly. The best way to check a cold baby is to look at the palms and soles. Most of the time the palms and soles of these babies are blue. If they are blue that means that the baby is under cold stress. So try to cover the baby with adequate cloth. Sometimes one or two layers of cloth and the baby feels warm and the baby starts crying less.

In addition to that sometimes especially during the summer months the babies may be wrapped with too many layers of cloth and that itself can cause too much sweetness in the baby and it can lead to more crying episodes. So try to remove one or two layers of cloth that will help the baby to relieve crying.

5. Infantile colic

In addition to this one of the common conditions where the baby cries a lot is because of infantile colic which is usually seen in the evening hours and can extend beyond it. In these babies’ swaddling sometimes prone position or timely time, the babies can be put on to the tummy in the morning and evening hours when the baby is awake and the baby will feel more relieved. If still the crying episodes significantly increase or it’s not coming down we can use the Colicaid drops or symmetrical drops in these babies at the dosage recommended by the doctor.

So these are some of the common conditions that we see in a neonate or infancy. There may be some other conditions like urinary tract infections or respiratory attack infections which can cause crying episodes. In these cases and if you are not able to solve the problem at home better to consult a physician.
